The Beckham documentary on Netflix
Love him or loathe him, it's a brilliantly made insight into the life of a superstar. My only complaint is that he didn't play for us.

Enjoyed it Alfs, found myself a bit bored at times, but overall, as you say, it was well made. Thought they spent too much time on the sending off against Argentina and the aftermath that followed, which now looks massively OTT, most people don't even give a fuck about the national side now, and I had forgot that his first game back was at our place, lol.

The fella is a grafter with a lot of self belief, and very dedicated to what he does/did, you can't deny him that. I didn't realise how much of an influence his old man was on him when he was a kid playing football growing up, to the point where Beckham may have not even made it had it not been for his old man pushing him so hard like he did and not letting him get carried away He seems like a good bloke too, massive Man Utd fan.

I'll also credit Beckham and his missus for not spoiling their kids and making them realise the value of a pound note, sending them out, when they were old enough, to do Saturday jobs, so they could buy their own sneakers, etc.

Hang on, in the very same sentence you say he seems like a good bloke, then go on to call him a massive cunt.

Make your mind up!

Cholo - Fair point, but at least he isn't Wall.

He just reminded me of a typical dad on a Sunday morning when I was playing football as a kid. A dying breed that type of character.

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
That's an interesting take Manuel. I thought it was a massive pufff piece... and getting Brooklyn to do the odd Saturday job has really helped the failed actor, model, photographer and chef - in whose career development multiple millions of other peoples money has been spunked - boasting Elton John, David Furnish and Liz Hurley as godparents and who's status is now merely described as a 'socialite' keep his feet formly on the ground. And I thought his Dad came across as thick cunt

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix ' Thick & Thin'
Might get round to watching it some point but understand as said its just a massive Beckham controlled PR piece.
You have to give the guy credit .... he has amassed a tremendous fortune and profile from probably being about the 5th best player in the great Ferguson Man U team.

Understand he tries to pretend that the stories about him poking Rebecca Loos (and others) were just hurtful rumours.

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix ' Thick & Thin'
It was MUCH better than I was expecting (which really wasn't much, to be fair). He comes across as a good bloke, which I suspect he is for the most part. I felt she was much more considered in what she said, like she was thinking ahead. I'm glad it made Glenn Hoddle look like a cunt, because he is.

I was intrigued how they'd deal with Rebecca Loos as they'd been pretty honest (seemingly, anyway) about life up to that point. When it happened they denied it and said they'd sue, which naturally they didn't. I knew they wouldn't deny it and I couldn't see him admitting it - and in the end neither happened. They didn't call it rumours, just talked about how difficult the whole time was and generally sidestepped it (which really is a massive admission). Loos wasn't referred to.

Enjoyed him pulling her up on exaggerating stuff, like how she got to school. It made him seem funny and honest, but it made her look a bit disingenuous.

Oneside fella - Yea I know Brooklyn went on to have a very privileged life, the yank woman he married has richer parents than he has. I was only pointing out that their kids weren't spoilt, so not sure why you got yourself so wound up, a bit odd.

As for his old man, who cares about his IQ level, maybe he is 'thick' so fucking what, I just commented that he seems like a good old school bloke and that he played a huge part in Beckham progressing through the ranks as a kid. Again, not sure why you got yourself so wound up.

"And I thought his Dad came across as thick cunt"

Probably because he spent all his time concentrating on the skill that would make him an multi millionaire, rather than school work that wouldn't.... and he's the thick one...

What makes you think I'm wound up? How strange

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
I thought it was decent. He has always come across as a likeable bloke and clearly has a business head on him because he has been immensely successful with the brand. Thought he got too much stick from 98 as it was a nothing kick and the Referee as well as Simeone were at fault, which Simeone pretty much admitted. That said he fell for it but didn't deserve the shit he got.

Was interesting how he didn't flat out deny the Loos speculation and I must confess I had forgotten how barren trophy wise his Madrid years were. The only thing I thought he was not quite honest about was when he said he never did certain things to annoy Fergie when clearly he did a bit. I mean you clearly knew where you stood with Ferguson so you would know you would piss him off doing certain things. Good on Fergie though for appearing, says a lot about Hoddle that he seemingly refused.

Both Stallone and Swarzenegger have documentaries on Netflix and both worth a watch.

Erm... I'm referring to his Dad, so what skill in particular had he honed through these hours of practice?

Warchild 3:06 Mon Nov 6
Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
While I agree that the shit he got was way OTT, especially in hindsight, his Mum fucked me off with the way she blamed Hoddle.

The facts of the matter are that at that point in time Beckham was a cocky, petulant prick. That petulance hindered England in that match big time.

Instead of blaming the manager who was emotional and had just had his team's chances impacted by said petulance, just fucking own the mistake and admit that he was to blame on this occasion (and recognise that your shit parenting contributed to the brat you had brought up).

To be fair to Beckham he pretty much acknowledged ownership of the fuck up later on in the series.

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
Agreed. I fucking hate Hoddle for the chance he wasted with England (just look at the subs bench when Owen scores - ridiculous talent) and his incredible arrogance, but you can't fault his response. If he'd said that the sending off didn't cost us, who would he be kidding?

Lots to blame Hoddle for, but that wasn't why the country went mad - it had nothing to do with it. Thought Mummy Beckham looked daft there. Protective as a mum would be, which was sweet, but completely misguided. They surely had more to blame Hoddle for?

zico 4:41 Mon Nov 6
Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
I still think Hoddle liked the power though and dropping Gazza from the squad proved that. Yes, Gazza was past his best and didn't help himself but as an option from the bench at the very least he was probably a better option than David Batty or Rob Lee!

Just one thing puzzled me, when he was BBQing, why did he BBQ one mushroom? :-)

Fauxstralian 6:41 Mon Nov 6

Cos Vicky Beckham was really hungry so wanted more than her usual half mushroom dinner

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
not sure i agree on the Hoddle thing, Ball son. The bloke was an absolute cunt.
He could very easily have got around it by blaming the ref, and saying it was never a red card, because it wasn't. It's what Ferguson would have done.
Instead, he chose to blame the player - because he's a cunt - as if to say to everyone that he was right to leave him out of the first game, and everyone else was wrong for wanting him to be included. Awful bloke and an awful manager.

Warchild 7:05 Mon Nov 6
Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
Really can't see how you can say it wasn't a red card, even taking into account the provocation and exaggerated falling over by Simeone.

Re: The Beckham documentary on Netflix
Was incredibly one sided. I like the bloke now, but I remember what an arrogant prick he was before the World Cup red card.

I remember being at a match at Upton Park when he put one in that top corner then ran over to celebrate in front of the chicken run cupping his ears and then pointing to his name.

The red card grounded him and he became less of a bell end as a result.

Being from London and a Yew-nigh-'id supporter is always unacceptable, and those that are, are always cunts. In my view they have no opinion about football and should be ignored. Same goes for so called Liverpool fans.
